WHY A SLEEP STUDY (WHY IT MATTERS)?

Why a Sleep Study
(Why it matters)

Health professionals have been telling us for years that getting sufficient amount sleep is important, but did you know the quality of sleep is also important? While there are a number of possible causes for poor sleep quality, one of the most common is sleep apnea, a condition that causes a lapse in breathing (to read more about sleep apnea, please click here).

Poor sleep quiality can lead to various health concerns, including heart failure, a stroke, diabetes, weight gain, hypertension, coronary artery disease, and atrial fibrillation. If you have a history of any of these conditions, poor sleep quality can worsen symptoms and make them harder to treat.

So, how do you know if you're getting enough, quality sleep? The most conclusive way of finding out is through a sleep study.

During the sleep study a number of vitals stats are recorded including oxygen levels, heart rate, breathing rates and more. A doctor utilizes the results of the study (or studies) to diagnose sleep apnea as well as other sleeping disorders.
